Tuscarora Boys Soccer Kicks off a Winning Tradition

By: Jack Minchew
Call it soccer, football, fútbol, or something else; soccer is the most popular sport in the world. However, compared to popular American high school sports like Volleyball, Basketball, and Football, Soccer just doesn’t attract the same amount of people. At a recent Tuscarora home game, the only fans were parents and a small dedicated student section, comprising of about ten people. However, varsity captain Omid Sarmadi means to change that. “At my old school, soccer was as big as football”, he remarked “we’re going to make it like that here”. Attendance at soccer games is sure to rise if the team continues playing like they have recently. While it is still early in the season, the Husky boys’ team has already compiled a record of 3-1-1, with wins over Dominion High School, and the defending state champions, Potomac Falls. The highlight of the season so far came in a recent 4-2 victory over the hated Woodgrove Wolverines. The utter destruction of the Wolverines was lead by star striker Angel Ceron-Garcia, who scored the first hat trick in Tuscarora history. Come see the team play Freedom High School tonight at 7:30 at home.
