Netflix is undoubtedly one of the most popular streaming services in the world with quite the variety to choose from. With all these options, it becomes easy to overlook many hidden gems. Here are some of the underrated films that students at Tuscarora recommend you take a look at.

Fractured (2019) is a film recommended by Hannah Schmittle and she describes it as a suspenseful thriller that will keep you on your toes. In this film, a man’s wife and injured daughter disappear from the emergency room and he becomes convinced that the hospital is hiding something.  Hannah says, “My favorite part was the plot twist at the end. I wasn’t expecting it at all and it really added a lot to the film.” If you enjoy suspense with an unexpected twist, then check out Fractured.

Murder Mystery (2019), recommended by Elena Brunton, is a comedic mystery featuring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. This movie is about a married couple who somehow get involved with a murder investigation on a billionaire’s yacht. “It’s entertaining as well as a good mystery. And even though it’s a comedy, there is a strong plot”, says Elena. This movie has been described as a lighthearted comedy suspense that you surely don’t want to miss.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society (2018), recommended by Carlin Lacques, is a romance/drama set just after WWII in 1946. In this film Juliet Ashton travels to write about a group of friends who live on the island of Guernsey (under German rule during WWII). She ends up getting closer to the group and ends up writing a manuscript about their experiences with the German occupation. Carlin says, “I like period films, and I also really like the actress who plays the main character, Lily James.” If you are interested in an emotional period piece romance, then this film is for you.

El Camino (2019) is a movie that I strongly recommend. This film is a followup to the hit series Breaking Bad. El Camino follows one character’s journey after his escape from captivity. I’d say this movie is pretty emotional and intense. It is also still interesting while not being overwhelmingly depressing. The tone is very closely replicated from that of Breaking Bad and keeps the viewer interested the whole time. This film doesn’t feel separate from the show and that’s what drew the viewers in. All in all, this sequel does not disappoint.
