This year has shown to be a year to remember, not only are we in the midst of a pandemic, we are also seeing a boiling point for human rights in America. With all of the challenges, we are seeing more people step forward to help their fellow community members in numerous ways. So the focus here is to take a closer look at those members of our community who are helping in extraordinary ways, giving a shout out to those who are doing their part to make a difference in these challenging times.
On March 22nd, Dylan Hudson and fellow Tuscarora students played in the unofficial Powder Puff game to raise money for LLS, which Hudson has been advocating for this past year.
“The powderpuff game is an awesome tradition that we have at the school and unfortunately it was canceled this year. This idea came up while I was spending time with my team members one night during our campaign. The Powderpuff game did a wonderful job at getting a lot of community involvement and it spread a lot of awareness for the cause.” Hudson said.
Hudson used this event, which in the past was done at school, to raise money for his cause. “I chose this as one of my fundraising events because I wanted to bring back some normalcy to the year. As seniors we have missed out on so many traditions so I think it’s very important to bring as many of them back within covid safety regulations.”
With this new school year, Hudson can say that he brought a familiar part of the year back for some of the upperclassmen. It is also no surprise that his outreach has strengthened the community and in spreading information to the community about LLS.
“In terms of powder puff I didn’t really have a monetary goal. I was more focused on everyone having fun. I think this is the reason we ended up raising the money that we did with the event. In terms of my fundraiser itself I am very happy with the reach that I got. I even earned a scholarship for the amount of community outreach that I got with my campaign.”
