As this unconventional school year continues rolling along many seniors are expecting college acceptances. For some they are anxiously awaiting not only college acceptances but offers to play their desired sport in college.
Senior Ryan Upp is one of these student athletes who experienced the recruiting process this year for football. Covid not only impacted school but also the next step in seniors lives around the country- college. According to Ryan the recruiting process was quite different this year. Many steps of the recruiting process, such as scouting during the season as well as visiting campuses, were cut out this year due to safety restrictions. “We weren’t allowed official visits or junior days so a lot of kids were blindly choosing schools.”, stated Ryan. Thankfully Ryan had former teammates who were able to help guide him in the right direction and offer some insight.
Despite these challenges Ryan was able to secure an offer from several schools, but eventually the decision came down to two. “The decision wasn’t easy, I was deciding between Morehead State and Butler University…” Ryan expressed, “…so I went and visited both campuses and Morehead State felt right, so I followed my gut and made my decision.” While the decision was a difficult one, Ryan is confident that Morehead State is the right choice for him.
Ryan is excited for the new experiences college football offers, “I think that I am most excited about the nice gear and facilities that come with playing ball at the next level,” Ryan stated excitedly. Through dedication Ryan Upp was able to pursue his passion of playing football in college and is thrilled to continue his career at Morehead State, and Tuscarora wishes him the best of luck.
