The Tuscarora football team was able to capture their tenth win this season on Friday, November 6th in their last regular season game against Broad Run.  The game was very close, coming down to the last minute.  The game ended 43-42 and was also Head Coach Michael Burnett and Assistant Coach Brian Fletcher’s 100th career win.

The Huskies took an early lead with senior Taj Malave-Neely scoring the first touchdown, however they did not get the extra point.  Broad Run gained the lead in a quick transition making the score 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Spartans increased their lead to 14-6 in the first 30 seconds of the second half.  The Huskies were able to score a touchdown, but were not able to get the two point conversion, leaving the Spartans with the lead 14-12.  The Huskies struggled throughout most of the second quarter and Broad Run was able to capitalize on this and score two more touchdowns increasing their lead to 28-12.  Tuscarora was able to get one more touchdown and a two point conversion before ending the half 28-20 Broad Run.

Broad Run scored the first touchdown of the second half at 8.18 to help extend their lead 35-20.  With two minutes left of the third quarter Tuscarora scored a touchdown and got the two point conversion, but Broad Run quickly retaliated with another touchdown ending the quarter 42-28.

The Huskies had a lot of catching up to do coming into the fourth quarter to maintain their undefeated record. Senior quarterback Daniel Smith ran the ball in with six minutes left decreasing the Spartans lead 42-36.  The Huskies defense was able to hold back the Broad Run offense. The Spartans then went for the field goal, but was deflected.  With 44.6 left, the Huskies scored the final touchdown of the game and captured the victory 43-42. The Huskies were not entirely pleased with their performance, even with the impressive comeback, the Huskies felt “[the team] could have played better,” as Smith explained.

The Huskies are currently undefeated with a regular season record of 10-0.  They are now the number one seed heading into Regional Playoffs. “[We are] looking forward into the season and are just taking it one game at a time,” said Smith. The Huskies will play their next game this Friday, November 13 against Patrick Henry High School at home.
