On March 14, 2025, Tuscarora High School’s music department won the Blue Ribbon Award for the second time in the school’s history. Tuscarora’s orchestra, choir, and band programs scored Superior ratings at Assessment, which secured them this prestigious designation.
Throughout the state of Virginia, high school music departments go through an evaluation process known as Assessment. Assessment is Virginia’s Music Standards Of Learning (SOL) test to evaluate if all music programs are following state wide curriculums and to see what each music director is focusing on within their ensembles. Assessment ratings range from 1-5, with 1 being the highest rating (Superior). Schools that earn Superior ratings for their band, orchestra, and choir programs are given the Blue Ribbon Award. Tuscarora excelled in all areas, earning Superior in all disciplines for the first time since 2022. While guitar is not taken into account for the Blue Ribbon Award, they still performed spectacularly at Assessment, receiving straight Superiors.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Fine Arts department, Tuscarora can proudly accept this award and continue excelling in music. Stay tuned for in-depth coverage featuring interviews with the staff and students who made this success possible!
