Lately, teenagers have brought back trends of things that were popular when we were younger. For example, slime has been trending again after years of not being talked about. Even the fashion has changed drastically in the last few years. A popular look now is y2k fashion which has come back with low-rise jeans, cheetah print designs, and mini skirts.
An article by Funtimes Magazine explains that Gen Z “are not just digging up trends from the past, they are giving it their own modern spin.” We have brought back things like clothes, hairstyles, jewelry, and even music!
The music industry has felt very similar to the early 2000s music we listened to when we were younger. Current pop stars like Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo give us the sense of familiarity from when we listened to 2000s pop stars like Britney Spears. Many current artists have seemed to bring back the feel of older music which their audience enjoys.
Accessories are constantly changing depending on what is popular or not. A very popular type of bracelet is a bangle which has been around since ancient times. Chunky jewelry such as this one was very popular during the 70s, but slowly died down. Recently, these bracelets have started to make more appearances in women’s everyday outfits, along with other larger statement pieces.
Alongside jewelry, hairstyles also play a major role in fashion. In the 90s, a popular look was wearing a zig-zag headband which adds a unique design to your hair that a normal headband cannot. These headbands have slowly been making a comeback lately and I could see that continuing to grow. One last fashion piece worth mentioning is chunky trainers. This type of sneaker was also popular in the 90s but has recently been the “new look.” One of the more well known sneaker brands, New Balance, is the shoe of choice when it comes to chunky trainers. This shoe can be dressed down with sweatpants or dressed up with stylish, wide-leg pants like jeans or slacks.
Aside from fashion, another trendy comeback is using digital cameras to take pictures. In the 90s, digital cameras were the cool, hot thing that everyone wanted. Using digital cameras never went away, but recently have felt more common to use than in years previously. The look of the photos on digital cameras give it a different feel that cannot be achieved with a normal phone camera. According to an article from Webb Canyon Chronicle, a reason digital cameras should come back is for the “nostalgia and aesthetic” you get from them. They stated, “as well as being reminiscent of the past, their appeal also comes from the automatic color grading when snapping a quick shot” (Webb Canyon Chronicle). The flash pictures on a digital camera come out with great lighting that a normal phone cannot always do.
You might see someone walking by with cheetah print clothes, bangle bracelets, and chunky sneakers that give you a blast from the past!
