On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the seniors took on the juniors in this year’s Powderpuff game. Powderpuff is an annual competition between the girls in both classes, while the football team coaches. It is an event that everyone has been looking forward to, especially the seniors. Ever since the class of 2025 were freshmen, they have been looking forward to their time to shine as upperclassmen. Last year, the class of 2025 fell short to the senior class, but this year, they came back ready to win. The game was extremely close, with the two teams heading into overtime, tied by 12. The audience was on their toes during the sudden death round. This means that whoever gets the first touchdown while leaving their opponent dry will win the game.
The crowd was on their feet when Grace Petruzzi crossed over the line, which was contradicted by the raising of a flag that had been pulled. People started questioning whether or not the flag had been pulled before the line, they just needed proof. Soon, they crowded around Maryam Barokah, a photographer, and looked at the pictures she had taken during the play. They urged her to show the referee, and after evaluating the picture, the referee declared the seniors as the winner of this year’s powderpuff game.
“It was so exciting to win, especially because it was our last year. The juniors’ competitiveness made winning so much better,” senior Cailin Mitchell says. A senior victory at Powderpuff has always been a tradition, and every year the juniors try especially hard to break it. That makes the competition extra tight, and winning all the sweeter. “I loved participating in powerpuff, all of the players and coaches were so kind and supportive and made it super fun,” says Reese Johnson, another senior who participated in Powderpuff. Now, it’s time for the seniors to take on their next challenge against the juniors: Powerbuff.
