This past Friday, Sept. 13, Tuscarora High School’s football team crushed Loudoun County High School with a final score of 42-7. The Huskies steadily scored throughout the game, locking the Loudoun County Captains at a score of 0 until the second half. The game resulted in the team’s second win of the season. Not only did the Huskies bring home another win, but the game doubled as the tailgate for Tuscarora High School, which was attended by students and teachers alike.
Corbin Segna, a senior at Tuscarora and a leader of Tusky Terror, the student-run spirit group, says, “We’re not the only school with a tailgate, but I think we have the strongest tailgate.” Segna has gone to every tailgate in his four years at Tuscarora. The tailgate is an opportunity for returning students and teachers to get together for food, fun, and a football game, and this year’s was packed with white-clad fans in support of the theme. Participants had three hours to munch on food and mingle their friends before the football game, which started at 7:00 p.m.
Audrey Acerno, a senior at Tuscarora High School, comments, “I enjoyed hanging out with my friends and playing the games that were there.” Some of these games included the volleyball nets and basketball scrimmages scattered throughout the tailgate area.
“That was my first time going to the tailgate, and I had a lot of fun… I really enjoyed the football game,” says Luke Pierce, a junior at Tuscarora high school. “I loved hanging out with my friends.”
The game started off with a quick touchdown by Tuscarora, which was cheered on by fans. The game boosted morale and reset the tone for this year of football, a much needed win since Tuscarora lost by one point to Independence High School in the second game of the season. Before that, Tuscarora’s football team was pitted against the Heritage Pride, which yielded a score of 42-7. With these wins and a subsequent bounce back from a loss, Tuscarora’s football team has a great year ahead!
