The past few years have left Marvel fans underwhelmed to say the least. The recent movies and shows haven’t felt like they used to since “Avengers: Endgame.” To build upon what I said in my previous Marvel article, “The History and Downfall of Marvel Movies,” people had low expectations for the MCU films in phase five. On July 26th, 2024, the hit movie of the summer, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” altered fans’ opinions on the current state of Marvel movies. According to Variety, the film has already grossed over one billion dollars worldwide in the box office. Keep in mind, other recent MCU projects such as “Madame Web” only surpassed one hundred million dollars worldwide. “Deadpool & Wolverine” might have been just what Marvel needed to regain fans’ trust and faith in their future projects.
Marvel has recently announced numerous movies and series that will be coming out within the next few years. These new releases span from now all the way until 2027! Many of these projects coming out contain fan favorite characters that were around before Marvel “fell off.” Bringing back these familiar faces will help the fans stay excited to continue watching. For example, “Captain America: Brave New World” will be coming out in February, 2025, which will follow the life of Sam Wilson. Wilson has been a loveable character ever since 2014, when he was introduced in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” This upcoming movie will show a different side of him that will be fascinating to see, as well as new characters to be introduced to.
With the expansion of the multiverse in the MCU, Marvel will be able to come up with anything they want for a movie. The multiverse gives them an infinite number of dimensions to work with that they can use to introduce new storylines and bring back old characters. The characters can be brought back at any time as an alternate version of themselves, so their deaths are never truly permanent.
Although some characters may not be around anymore, the actors are here to stay. Robert Downey Jr. is most famously known for playing Iron Man. He has been around since the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Most fans thought he was gone for good, but in July of 2024 it was announced that he will return as Doctor Doom in the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday.” There have been mixed emotions about this announcement, but many will be happy to see the fan favorite Marvel actor in more movies. Personally, I am excited to see the upcoming projects and I have high hopes for the next phase of the MCU!
There are definitely many fans who are still questionable about what Marvel has turned into, but after the great reviews from “Deadpool & Wolverine,” nerves have been calmed. This hit movie was just what was needed to rejuvenate the MCU.
