Despite challenges with organizing athletics and other activities this year, the Tuscarora Academic Competition Team is in full swing. Since the start, the THS Academic Team has been crushing the competition with their most recent wins being against Independence High School and Heritage High School.
For those who aren’t familiar with the Tuscarora Academic team, they are a group of bright students who represent THS at trivia competitions. The students are asked a wide variety of questions on many different academic topics in fast paced rounds. This year the members of the team are: Laila Ali, Eshal Farooq, Victoria George, Alexander Gorodchanin, Geet Gurna, Neha Joshi, Alper Kutlug, Kerem Kutlug, and Carlin Lacques.
There is a lot of hard work that goes into preparing for these matches. Senior, Victoria George, helped to describe the process. “To prepare, we practice old question sets as a team; some are from our past competitions but others our coaches find online.”, explained Victoria. Obviously all of the hard work paid off, and it shows with their numbers. This season the Academic Team has won five out of six matches so far.
“It feels pretty good winning. We definitely do like it because it shows off that the practice we do is working and it also shows our own knowledge that we have,” stated senior Geet Gurna.
This past Thursday the THS Academic Team was able to showcase that hard work at the matches against Independence High School and Heritage High School.
According to Victoria, “This year has been very different. Everything is online, and because of this there is far less collaboration unfortunately. We try to make everyone feel comfortable answering, and there is no shame in being incorrect.”
Despite these unconventional circumstances the Academic Team has proven that they have what it takes to win.
As the season continues the Tuscarora Academic Competition Team is working harder than ever and are sure to keep dominating the competition.
