Tuscarora Advance to Semifinals: Huskies Beat Wakefield

By Rikki Pepino

Huskies stood up to the numbing cold at Fortune Field last Friday, November 21 to knock off the Wakefield High School Warriors, 42-14, in the VHSL 5A North Region Quarterfinal.

The Huskies started slow in the first quarter as the Wakefield Warriors received an early lead, 7-0, with senior quarterback Riley Wilson completing a pass to fellow senior receiver Justin Moore for a 5-yard touchdown. A minute after, with senior linebacker Noah Reimers staying on the sideline due to an injury with his shoulder, Tuscarora senior running back Ish Williams broke for a 50-yard touchdown run to even the game and the quarter, 7-7.

With 9:00 left in the first half, Reimers recuperated from his injuries and went for 2 touchdowns to gain Tuscarora the lead. Soon after, senior linebacker Jordan Fisher ended the half with a 30-yard touchdown interception return to increase the Huskies’ lead 28-7.

“With hardwork and determination, we were able to come back from them scoring in the first quarter,” said Fisher. “Reimers was on fire, he got back up from his injury and was able to play very well.”

Warriors remained quiet in the 2nd half with Tuscarora only increasing their lead even further. Reimers and junior quarterback Daniel Smith carried the team in the 3rd with Reimers scoring a 1-yard touchdown and Smith completing an 8-yard touchdown pass to Fisher to end the quarter 42-7.

Warriors ended the night with a 2-yard touchdown from senior running back Leon Young.

With Wakefield out of the picture, the Huskies prepare for the Friday, Nov. 28 bout against Broad Run High School in the VHSL 5A North Region Semifinal at Fortune Field.
