A lot has been leading up to the Briar Woods varsity football game tonight; from all the “Eat Falcons” signs hanging around the school to the ongoing drama between the two rivals. This game, being the last in Tuscarora’s regular season before heading to playoffs, makes for an exciting event as Briar Woods poses a major threat despite the 2 losses they’ve garnered over the season.

In the past, Briar Woods has proved to be a formidable opponent as they have consistently beaten the varsity team, earning an undefeated streak against the Huskies. Briar Woods has not just won games against the team but has done it with extravagant style: in 2011 scoring 38-0 and in 2012 scoring 35-7.

Though Briar has yet to be defeated at the hands of the Huskies, Tuscarora have been showing quite the improvement in the 2014-2015 season. So far, they have garnered 9 wins with 0 losses including a  61-14 bout against the Heritage Pride on September 26, which ultimately broke the record for most points scored in a game at Tuscarora. The Huskies dominated at Martinsburg High School 40-21 on September 19, crushed Loudoun County 21-8 once again on October 2 and recently, beat Freedom in an away game 41-3 on October 24. Currently fresh from a BYE week, the Huskies hope to gain a decisive win against Briar tonight at 7 p.m.

These two high schools have proven to be powerhouses in this season. Though both formidable teams, for the first time in Tusky history, Briar Woods appears to be the underdog in this battle. If Tuscarora’s performance is consistent with its 9-0 season, the Huskies will remain undefeated.
