National Art Honor Society Serves the School Through Murals

By Brianna Meeks

Tuscarora’s National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is currently repainting murals in the school, currently working on the one in the fine arts hallway.

The NAHS is open to any student who has taken an art class, meeting every Thursday at 8:15 a.m. At the beginning of the year, they had high hopes for creating new murals in the science hallway. However, other commitments got in the way. Senior Julia Cline says, “Everyone is so busy, and our original plans weren’t working. So we’re just working on fixing the fine arts mural.”

However, they decided that repainting murals was a feasible option, and the fine arts mural has been under construction. Since making this decision, it has sported a “do not touch” sign, and more recently displayed some minor alterations. The revamping process has been somewhat slow so far, but Ms. Linda Konya, the NAHS sponsor, says there will be a push to finish after Spring Break.

Earlier in the year, NAHS also adorned the hallways with artwork that students in the society had submitted. Ms. Konya says, “I think it’s important to have an organization that gives back to the school through the arts, particularly the visual arts. The students that are interested in art are given an opportunity to get together, an opportunity to explore art.”
