The Husky Headline would like to congratulate our Editor-in-Chief, Senior Meilan Solly, on being named the 2014  Virginia JEA Student Journalist of the Year.

Meilan submitted a portfolio of her work, showcasing her four years of experience on the staff of the student newspaper. Solly has served as the Copy Editor, Assistant Editor-in-Chief, and now EIC during her time at Tuscarora on The Husky Headline staff. She was selected as the Virginia representative to the Free Spirit Journalism Conference sponsored by the Newseum in 2013, and has won various other awards on the school and local level for her writing and design skills. During her time as an editor, the student newspaper has been recognized as a VHSL First Place award-winning publication.

Meilan’s portfolio will now be submitted to the JEA national office for consideration for this year’s national student journalist award along with other state winners from across the United States. The JEA Journalist of the Year will be announced in April.
