DST Training for Tuscarora Softball Players

By: Guest Writer Sloane Smith
STERLING, VA – Starting on November 6th, 2011, Tuscarora High School’s girls’ softball team began hitting practice at Diamond Sports Training Center (DST).  Girls had the choice to start either in November, December, or January.  Practices are held on Sunday mornings.  Those who started in November practice from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.  Girls who began training in December and January practice from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.  To be able to qualify to go to these practices, interested students must pay a fee. Girls who start in November pay a fee of around $35; starting in December the cost is $250, and in January the cost is around $150.
At these early morning training practices, girls will mostly be hitting.  Coach Smith said the girls will also be working on “the defensive side, pitching, and the mental part of the game.”  Whether it is hitting off a tee, practicing bunting, or doing fielding drills, they do it all.  Coach Smith also tries to do her best in giving one-on-one time with every player to help them perform to the best of their abilities.
Former Tuscarora Varsity softball player Casey Pearson says “these training sessions helped me so much as a player. My hitting has really improved.”  She also says she doesn’t mind waking up in the morning because she’s a morning person and she also “loves starting her day off [spending time] with Coach Smith.”
Girls who play softball and are interested in signing up can contact Coach Smith via email or visit her in room 203 for a form.   Get it signed, bring it back, and then you’ll be able to train with the Tuscarora High School Softball team too.
